Misfits is a British science fiction drama television show about a group of young offenders sentenced to work in a community service program, where they obtain supernatural powers after a strange electrical storm. The first series started broadcasting on 12 November 2009 on E4. The show follows the lives of the four 20 somethings as they try to deal with their new super powers and finish their community service. All while slacking off and avoiding being killed by others who have been affected by the storm.
We are back with Misfits Monday, this week we learn more about Curtis. The time turner, he really isn't a time traveler because he can't really control it. The episode starts in black and white and shows Curtis getting ready to run he puts his cross in his mouth and as it drops a gun is fired and he awakes in shock. His room has many trophies, his jumpsuit and the newspaper that talks about his drug charges.
He gets to the community center early and he and Alisha "have sex" well actually they masturbate and stare at each other and are caught by Nathan. Nathan makes sure to tell the whole gang about their sexcapades and a girl walks in and sees Curtis and Alisha flirting. She seems quite mad and storms out, Alisha explains the relationship she has with Curtis to Kelley and Sally stares at them accusingly. She is determined to figure out who killed her boyfriend because the authorities won't search for him. But he is under six feet of cement, give or take.
The girl is Curtis's ex Sam and she knows she won;t get a job now. You can tell he wants to tell her about his powers but he doesn't. She is also mad at him for not visiting but he said he felt too guilty. She blames it all on him and with that emotional moment he is transported back to when he wasn't a criminal. He is in the club he got busted at for coke and he tries to stop her. He grans the drugs and runs with them, he tries to flush them but the toilet is clogged. He digs through the muck and shit and eventually flushes the toilet and gets out of the bathroom.
As he hides between some cars he sees Nathan and calls out for help but he doesn't know him and almost causes a scene but Curtis tells him to go away. It cuts to Nathan in a bowling alley and when he bowls it goes into the gutter and he seems okay with it. It then cuts to Curtis getting spotted, chased and then nearly caught. We then find out that Nathan is caught for stealing from the pick and mix. The guy that catches him is named Beverly and makes fun of him as he is wrestled down. Nathan fakes a fit to get away from Beverly and the rent a cop and as it cuts between him and Curtis we find out that guy that sokd the drugs wants them back and Curtis promises to pay him back. We also see Kelley in the club, make out with her boyfriend who took a pill and fed it to her.
Nathan continues to take the piss with Beverly, so Curtis is brought to community service for coke. Alisha for drink driving with a suspended license and Nathan for stealing and destroying some bowling alley property. Curtis meets up with Kelley but she has no idea who she is plus she is super wasted. He gives her his hoodie and it has all his cash. So when he goes to the dealer to give him the money it causes a fight and Sam gets stabbed. Curtis then goes back in time to try and fix it yet again. So this is like Groundhogs Day or the Mystery Spot episode of Supernatural but uh not as awesome.
This time he steals the drugs from the dealer and runs before the cops see him. He easily gets away from the guy as he hides in the parking garage. We eventually see Simon as he tries to impress a friend by buying a beer. Because he got a text but it was meant for someone else and we see Simon sulk away. Other events play out the same but this time Curtis grabs his money from the hoodie he gives Kelley. Simon finds Kelley and she is blacked out on the stairs where Curtis left her. Simon goes for a leg touch but she stirs and he runs away.
Curtis meets back up with Sam and explains that he will return the drugs to the guy. When he meets up with him, they get caught but this time he had nothing on him. The cop gives him a pep talk as he pats him down but they are clean of drugs. Nathan's dad comes to bail him out but he basically tells him to fuck off and so Nathan's back story is finally explained a bit more. We see Sally and Tony bowling as Nathan is dragged away. Kelley and her boyfriend meet up with Curtis and she is wasted. Her boyfriend breaks into a car finds a wedding ring and proposes to her. Curtis meets up with Alisha and says he changed the future and weirds her out by ordering her favorite drink. The car that is broken into is Sally and Tony's car. We see he has a bit of a temper so that's where the uber anger comes from and the wedding ring was for Sally.
It shows Curtis and Sam kissing and enjoying their night but zooms into his eye as he travels into the future. He awakes in his room in the new timeline, where he isn't in community service but everyone else was. I saw was because Tony killed them all, without Curtis to turn back time they never survived his rage except Nathan survives. With the realization of not being able to help them he goes back in time to do it all again. But this time he takes the drugs so Sam doesn't have to go to jail. He flushes the drugs except one little bit so he can be arrested and the timeline sorts it self out.
For being one of my least favorite characters he still has a strong episode. I enjoy time travel stories. The music is really good in this episode and Nathan steals the show as always. I also love the cinematography of the show. It always has great angles, interesting camera movements. The writing is top notch and the end is nearing. Will Sally find out who killed Tony? What will she do? What will the Misfits do? Stick around because this super hero drama is heating up and each week is more exciting that the last!
