Late to the Party: Misfits Series 2 Episode 1

Misfits is a British science fiction drama television show about a group of young offenders sentenced to work in a community service program, where they obtain supernatural powers after a strange electrical storm. The first series started broadcasting on 12 November 2009 on E4. The show follows the lives of the four 20 somethings as they try to deal with their new super powers and finish their community service. All while slacking off and avoiding being killed by others who have been affected by the storm.

We're back with Misfit's Monday and we have reached series two. Last series, they all (sans Nathan) gained super powers and used them. Mostly for their own gain, and in Curtis's episode where he changed time and the gang gets kills except Nathan. Well that was a big fat hint that he was immortal because that was the series finale reveal. So Nathan has been buried alive and they have already killed two probation workers and a cult leader. What does this series hold? We shall see.

The episode starts with a countdown clock and we see some photos of Alisha and a person suiting up in what looks like paintball gear. He will be called Super Hoodie and this series we learn more about him. Or her? The beginning is a montage of Super Hoodie doing some parkour through the building tops while it cuts to the group. Kelley is still distraught by the death of Nathan and the whole group dynamic is a bit somber. Simon still has the body of Sally hidden away and frozen. Super Hoodie tosses a paper airplane and it hits Kelley right in the eye. In the paper it has a note that says "Go to His Grave."

We meet the new probation worker as the group talks about the note. He hates his job and brings them to help with art therapy. We meet a new girl who seems to fancy Simon and she knows him. Okay fancy is too weak of a word, she worships him and she was apparently a bit off kilter. She forces him to meet up with her and even gives him the long creepy hug before he gets away. It cuts to the cemetery and we see the gang around Nathan's grave. Luckily she hears Nathan's perverted thoughts as he is having a wank in the coffin.

They dig him up but he is laying there not moving. As Kelley gets close he grabs her hand causing them to all get scared. Nathan is as crazy as ever and he has been given the best line. Especially when he explains meeting up with his mother. He told his father he faked his death for insurance money. Nathan could have got away from the ASBO program but he came back and they added him back into the system. We continue to see the creepy stalker girl and Nathan makes fun of her from across the room. She freaks out on her drawing before it cuts away. Simon is in the changing room when Alisha comes on to him, but we find out it's creepy stalker girl.

Her ability is to transform and it doesn't look to be an easy transformation. It reminded me of the skin walkers from Supernatural. We see Kelley and Nathan talking and he sets up a date with her. It then cuts to Simon talking to Alisha, wondering why she had gone down on him. But it wasn't her. She is confused by the situation and calls him a freak. He is obviously confused. Nathan bumps into Kelley and asks about their "date" and she asks him to whip it out and when he finds her again she has no clue what he is on about. Because Creepy Stalker Girl is fucking with the group.

Simon overhears the detective and the new probation worker talking. He turns invisible as the detective explains that he wants to search the building. But the probation worker tells him he needs a warrant. Faske!Alisha goes to Curtis and tells him that Simon attacked her. As Simon tries to hide the body of Sally, Nathan stops him and then Curtis attacks him. But Real!Alisha explains that Simon didn't attack her. As they accuse each other of things, they find the frozen body of Sally. They are all freaking out and Nathan leaves. Then Real!Nathan appears. The now realize that there is "copycat" and they pick the password "monkey slut."

We find out that Creepy Stalker Girl is Lucy. She runs off and the probation worker appears, they think it's Lucy and kick the shit of of her. But when the body stays the same, they look to see Lucy. But Curtis goes back in time to fix everything. Curtis explains the whole situation and he doesn't like that they are lying. But since it's 5 he just leaves. They chase the girl down and find a mouse in the room she hid in. She hides in the walls and they get some cheese to get her. As they wait, he explains how he knows her. He was put in an institution after he tried to burn down the house of a guy that treated him like shit. Nathan says something as usual, and him and Simon make up. Sort of, after he explains why he hates being made fun of and just wants to be friends.

Nathan instigates the whole Simon being blown by Alisha and they all start fighting. Causing Mouse!Lucy to get away. Nathan kills the mouse but soon finds out that Simon is actually Lucy. They get into a fight and he is impaled. Simon, Kelley and Alisha come to Nathan's aid and they have no idea who is who. Alisha shows off that she is her and Simon becomes invisible. Curtis appears and Kelley knocks him down and nearly kills him before everything goes dark and Super Hoodie saves Curtis.

Fake!Simon after explaining to the Real!Simon that his news friends tore them apart goes to the cops to explain everything. The Real!Simon finds Fake!Simon and they have a chat before the detective arrived. We really get to see the acting chops of Iwan Rheon in this episode. When the real Simon becomes invisible, and Lucy tells the detective to fuck off. SImon walks her home and it cuts to Nathan waking up with Kelley. They forgive each other and it cuts to the freezer yet again. The take the body and dump it into the river. Nathan explains how after community service he is going to join the circus.

This was a wonderful start to the new series, we get new and interesting characters. An interesting plot that continued for the previous series while staying fresh. The music is a hit for the entire album. I'm very excited to see how the series grows. This series is a must watch and should last many more series. See you next week for episode two!
