Chapter Four: The Map.

Izzy sat next to me, her book in a nose and I had no idea how she could read with the roar of the crowd. We were at the first Quidditch match of the second year of my time at Hogwarts. Sophie Webb zoomed passed them, she must have seen the Golden Snitch. She had gotten better since last year. She was now a fourth year and her black hair was cut shorter than last year. She said it made her faster, and she had gotten Ravenclaw to second place last year. Hufflepuff had taken the cup but their team was nearly all seventh years. So they had a whole new team, and we were beating them today.

Miles Travers had graduated and the Captain position went to some fifth year but his beater replacement was Poppy. Replacing my sister as Keeper was Malik Talki, he was doing quite well. I don't know if I could do the whole Quidditch thing, I wasn't the best on a broom but I knew the rules and how to play. Meredith would probably want me on the team but I would just be in her shadow so I was going to take a different route. I loved herbology and had top marks in defense against the dark arts. But right now my mind was on the game, unlike Izzy who was deep in whatever book she was reading.

Poppy swung her bat knocking the bludger away, it zoomed passed one of the Hufflepuff's almost knocking the poor kid down. The audience gasps as Sophie rode her broom like a surfboard holding up the golden snitch. The roar from the Ravenclaws continued into the night. Professor Corner came in once, and we shut up. But our talking didn't end. Even my sister, the new head girl wouldn't shut up and it reminded me of Meredith. But sometime after midnight Karen came around and told us to stop. Sleeping was hard but it soon would take us.

Little did we know outside Hogwarts a new dark wizard was gaining power. I knew this because of the dreams, dreams I told no one about. Dreams that scared me, dreams that changed me. They all started in my second year, the night of our first Quidditch victory. I had just fallen asleep or so it felt like it, I don't know how dreams work but it seemed normal at first. Explosions were going off around me, but I was walking forward like nothing was happening. Spells were being fired at me and I deflected them easily. As I stopped walking I saw a collection of wizards, they were my friends. Cowering in fear, my eyes locked with Poppy's as I pointed my wand  at her face.

She was pleading with me, saying she wanted to help me. Izzy was holding a dead Professor Longbottom, crying. But I was focused on Poppy as I used the Imperius curse on her. I felt the satisfaction as I tormented her. I woke up, covered in sweat, I could see see the destroyed city around me. Dead wizards I had known everywhere but the sadness I had seen in Poppy's eyes was the worst. I swallowed hard, my head was hurting and I wanted to cry. How could anyone do something like that? How could he do something like that? He continued to wonder and as the term went on the dreams got worse.

"Flynn, you look knackered! What's wrong?" I heard Poppy say and seeing her smile at me made me feel worse.

"Just tired is all, so much studying." I lied and she believed me. Everyone believe my lies and I continues to lie.

We all sat in the Great Hall, at the tables. Poppy was next to me, concerned. Malik was talking about Quidditch with Ben and Stan and Cris was asking me about herbology. Curtis lumbered over, a big smile on his face. He was a third year and he slapped down a scroll of parchment. "Look at these Divination grades. I'm a Seer. I can see it!" he said and laughed. His laugh shook the room.

"Great job Curtis, wait is Astrology tonight?" I asked. I couldn't keep track of the grades and most of the guys laughed at my question.

"It's Saturday, mate. No classes, but we have tons of work for our classes. Luckily the older kids will be at Hogsmead for Halloween. We have that essay for Potions, we need to read four chapters for Transfiguration. We have to draw a few things for Care of Magical Creatures and finish our Divination diaries." Ben chimed up and it shocked me. Ben was lazier than most of us, but then I remember he had gotten a howler once his dad found out about his grades.

"We could go to the library or... we could sneak into Hogsmead, with this." Cali said as he slapped down a piece of parchment.

We all looked at it and Cris laughed, "Is that going to cover us up while we sneak in?" he said wryly.

"No you git, it's a map of the school. An old one... I solemnly swear I'm up to no good." He said as he tapped it with his wand. He had a big grin on his face as the map unfolded and started to fill in. Little dots with names on them appeared as well and moved around the school.

"Where did you get this?" Poppy and I both said, we looked at each other and grinned.

"Some kid left it behind years ago and it has been passed to each house since. We have it this time, come on. Let's break some rules." Cali said with his big grin and his curly hair swaying as he chuckled.

"You'll get caught," said a voice and we looked down to see Izzy, nose deep in a book.

But we were kids, we had a way to get into a restricted area and we felt like breaking some rules. Cris formulated the plan of when each of us would sneak behind the witch statue. Ben had said he would be on watch and go last. Cali had memorized the map and when he went first after he handed me the map. Poppy was after him, than Cris, after that I ran in. Ben was last and we all met in the middle to read the map.

I felt Poppy take my hand as we walked through the tunnels, they were hot and had it been someone else I would have let go of her hand. But I kept her hand entwined with mine as we walked behind the laughing Cali, Cris and Ben. As we reached the end of the tunnel, Ben hopped out first, looked around and made a small whistle to signal us. I let go of Poppy's hand so she can go next, followed by Cali, Cris and I take the tail. Making sure to close the door. Being in the backroom of Honeydukes was interesting. But we made sure not to stay as we ran into the store.

The store was bright with a rainbow of colors, candies of all sorts and I wished at that moment I had money. Well I had a few sickles and a galleon but I wasn't supposed to spend them. But an hour later we all walked back into the tunnel, holding bags of candy, giggling and filling our faces with all sorts of sugary treats. They had done it, gotten away with sneaking into Hogsmead, broke a school rule and didn't get caught. But none of the teachers had cared about small rules like that, because soon all trips would end. Dominimortem the night before when I had my dream had started to gain his followers. But he wasn't doing it in secret, he was loud with his uprising.

He didn't try to sneak into the ministry, he started to kill famous wizards. His fist victim, Harry Potter. Everything changed that day.
