Late to the Party: Misfits Series 2 Episode 2

Misfits is a British science fiction drama television show about a group of young offenders sentenced to work in a community service program, where they obtain supernatural powers after a strange electrical storm. The first series started broadcasting on 12 November 2009 on E4. The show follows the lives of the four 20 somethings as they try to deal with their new super powers and finish their community service. All while slacking off and avoiding being killed by others who have been affected by the storm.

We're back with Misfits Monday, will we learn more about Super Hoodie? Will Nathan keep dying like Kenny from South Park? Why does Alisha have the lamest powers? Al the questions may be answered. But will they be answered today?

The episode starts with a guy driving and in his trunk is another guy that is tied up. It cuts to the gang on the roof and Nathan starts to strip down and show off his stick like body as he rubs sun screen on himself. As he is putting on the show the guy that was driving the car with a man in the trunk calls out for Nathan. He is his brother and Nathan accepts it without too many questions. Nathan is in the urinal after the opening and he calls his dad, wanting to know the 411. The random is still in the trunk and we heard a phone ring while Nathan and his brother are at the pub.

The probation worker asks the gang where Nathan is and they try to lie but he ends up finding out about where Nathan is. Nathan goes off to flirt with a girl and is rejected quickly and as he goes to the bar and flirts with the bartender we meet another person with a power. This girl can freeze things. But he explains that he has a power and she starts to lighten up and gets her number. After he pisses off the bar owner and gets a busted up lip. His brother looked quite surprised when he saw him get the number.

When they continue on their path they find an empty parking spot and Nathan's brother explains that he had their dad in the trunk. He said that he kidnapped him so he could have his father say sorry to his mother. After a small spat, they decide to make up and find their father. They find a car that looks to have been caught on fire, they learn that it isn't theirs as his brother's car speeds passed them. Nathan provokes them so his brother can get the car back. The plan works and Nathan didn't have to get beat to death.

Once they get their father out of the trunk, some police arrive and at the police headquarters Nathan talks with his father. Nathan goes on a tirade about parenting. It's scenes like this that show that Robert Sheehan can act. He isn't all funny lines and goofy faces. Their dad leaves before Nathan's brother is released and when he comes out they go off and have some brotherly bonding over drinks. It cuts to Alisha and she hears a noise, Super Hoodie is spotted jumping around from building to building and she films him. It cuts to Simon outside of the community center and Nathan walks out with his brother. After a quick chat the probation worker arrives and asks where Nathan went off to but he deflects the question and it quickly cuts to the gang watching Super Hoodie.

Nathan explains how he was saved by a masked super hero and the gang is quite surprised. But they don't concern themselves with finding out why this guy or girl is doing these things. It cuts to Nathan and his brother at the community center and Nathan explains how terrible his relationship with their father is. After they go to a club and Nathan sees their father but as he drives off he doesn't tell his brother. He meets up with the bartender, and the gang. His brother hands out some pills and drops one in Simon's drink with a Bugs Bunny style distraction.

The pill affects Kelley as we see when Nathan chooses her over the bartender. She begins to say everything on her mind it's like a truth serum. A few of the things she says doesn't go to well and he leaves her. The pill kicks in and Alisha's power is reversed. When people touch her they get super angry with her. Curtis throws her down and other's call her names. As the pill hits him, he travels into the future. He is in a costume and some random lady starts to strip down and snog him. He has no idea what is happening and then returns to the present to find Alisha. The pill hits Simon and people start to notice him. His drunken pilled up dance even becomes a new dance at that club.

Nathan is in the stall when Simon comes in and notices that his power was being reversed. Nathan tells him to use it to take advantage of a girl. As we see Nathan's brother with the bartender, they start to get it on in the car. Her power is starting to reverse and she comments about burning up. The fire from her explodes out. We see Nathan's eyes do the weird thing so his power is reverse and is tackled by a stranger because he isn't immortal. Surprisingly Nathan's brother survived the explosion. Simon follows the man that stopped Nathan.

Simon corners him to a small flat but turns away. So we learn nothing about Super Hoodie. It cuts to Nathan and his brother. He explains that the girl pushed him out of the car, saving his life and died in the explosion. Nathan explains about the storm and his immortality. His brother wants to make up with their father but Nathan expresses how he doesn't want to. It cuts to Alisha lamenting about how her reverse power is just as bad as her current power. She asks about the future and he tells her that he is on a roof, about to jump in a super hero costume. Maybe he is Super Hoodie?

Nathan and his brother go to confront their father. He explains how he is a hopeless cause and he shouldn't do that to Jamie. Yeah that is his name, they said it a few times but I missed it. As he talks about Jamie, his father tells him he is dead. He seems to be able to talk with the dead being immortal and his brother brought him to his father so he could fix things with him. Jamie didn't escape from the car and Nathan goes to his father.  It's nice to see them work things out in their own way.

Simon tells the gang he knows where Super Hoodie is, they go to his place and break in. He watches them from the rooftops as they look around. They notice women's clothes and to send a message Nathan takes a shit on the bed. Simon says that it isn't Super Hoodie's flat and then when Curtis leaves we meet the flat owner. It's the girl from Curtis's vision.

This was such a great episode, the music was fantastic, the acting was top notch. We learn a lot about Nathan and we get a few hints as to what is about to come. So far I'm enjoying this season a lot more than series one and I did enjoy series one quite a lot. I just want more and having to wait a week to talk about it can be challenging! So until next Misfits Monday, I'm out!
